my dad's third child

What some of you may not know is that my dad has a third child. It is my newly renovated bathroom. It is his pride and joy.

rory builds a tall bike

Rory decided to build a tall bike today. I like that when Rory gets an idea he just does it. He somehow knows how to do just about anything; like father, like son.
His hands are always filthy...
Crafting away...
Here it is in all it's glory!

He is trying to mount the tall bike with the help of a palm tree...
For some reason this was alot funnier in person...

built to spill concert @ belly up

Jessie came down to visit me one last time before she embarks on her year long journey to Spain. She met me at my house in the late afternoon and we went to Beacon's and then went to the Built to Spill concert at the Belly Up. They played an amazing performance and she liked them a whole lot. Here are some clips on the concert as well as some lyrics.

Built to Spill - Kicked it in the Sun (Perfect From Now On)
backwashed thoughts
and you made me talk
no you made me listen
there's a feeling from ada to irene
there's something
there's nothing you haven't seen
tiny tv
on at three
so serene
no place to be alone
so come on over
yeah
let's sit down a little while
some wine
you will find the same things
the same things
the same things
the same things
the same things
by the time you read this
you kicked it in the sun
it was all that you could do
how could you refuse
and you kicked it in the sun
it was all you had to do
and you kicked it in the sun
it was all you had to do
how could you refuse
and you kicked it in the sun
it was wrong and it was rude
and you kicked it in the sun
it was wrong and it was rude
how could you refuse
and you kicked it in the sun

it's alright now I'm getting over getting mine
it's alright now I'm getting over getting mine

he seemed so unashamed of how he operated
corresponds to the facts that you want
despite his expectations
he turned out mediocre
his master plan was so so
we're special in other ways
ways our mothers appreciate
that net does not make me feel safe
all those holes make me nervous

he woke up late that morning
went to the window and saw the sun had stopped its shining
so so
we're special in other ways
ways our mothers appreciate
we're special in other ways
ways our mothers appreciate
we're special
we're special

Built to Spill - Strange (Ancient Melodies of the Future)
this strange plan is random at best
this strange how much more can i take
this strange changing atmosphere
and it gravity too in its severity
this strange day is almost over
just started to get sick of it
and its strange but not all that strange
yeah its strange but whats so strange about that
yeah its strange but what isn't strange
yeah its strange but oh well
this strange plan is random at best
this strange how much more can i take
this strange sound you said i said
you're not listening or im not saying it right
this strange war of promises
lets call this a truce, well call it the truth
and its strange but not all that strange
yeah its strange but whats so strange about that
yeah its strange but what isnt strange
yeah its strange but oh well

Built to Spill - Distopian Dream Girl (There's Nothing Wrong with Love)
Can you make it real
Make it more than will
More than just feel
We are on a ride
We're on it all the time
It's at the front of your mind
My stepfather looks just like David Bowie
But he hates David Bowie
I think Bowie's cool
I think Lodger rules
I think my stepdad's a fool
Without me there's nothing
I'm the only thing that dies
If it came down to your life or mine
I would do the stupid thing
And let you keep on living
"I'm alright," said the man to his wife
Waking up to a head full of bed
Full of what she said
She hadn't thought of it for a while
And when she did
She thought of it differently
Than she thought she should be thinking
Just the thought of it's enough
To penetrate my comfort zone

Built to Spill - In Your Mind (Ancient Melodies of the Future)
The symptoms of our getting older,
the problems that say we don't mind,
most of us never get over
memories mingled with lies.
Coincidence gave a confession,
that no one's allowed to forget,
I dont want to give the impression
that predestination is set.
And distance will increase the danger,
with certainties never enjoyed.
Regarded as equal yet stranger,
ignored, then embraced, then destroyed.
Observing the process will change it,
afterwards even if you
subconsciously rearrange it,
it doesnt seem any less true.
The remnants of fog disappearing,
and even transcending concern,
disturbing but somehow endearing,
conditioned to never unlearn.
And no one can tell me to listen,
and no one can tell me whats right,
cause nobody has my permission,
and no one can see in your mind,
in your mind, in your mind, in your mind.
The magnifications explore,
there slowly emerges a pattern,
and details you normally ignore,
you notice really what matters.
Tt isn't a time or a place,
only an ebb and a flowing.
A permanent repeating space,
occuring, connecting, and growing.
And no one can tell me to listen,
and no oone can tell me what's right,
cause nobody has my permission,
and no one can see in your mind,
in your mind, in your mind, in your mind.

Built to Spill - Big Dipper (There's Nothing Wrong with Love)
Once
When I was little someone pointed out to me
Some constellations but the big dipper's all I could see
That brontosaurus must have stood a thousand miles high
That brontosaurus laying on its side up in the sky
Bottoms up and this time
Won't you let me be?
Bottled up but this time
Won't you rescue me?
You should have been here last night and heard what the big dipper said to me
Jack thought it twice and thought that that fact made it true
Some brains just work that way that's what chemicals can do
He thought he'd have a beer thought he was alone
He thought an Albertson's stir fry dinner would make his apartment a home
Bottoms up and this time
Won't you let me be?
Bottled up but this time
Won't you rescue me?
You should have been here last night and heard what the big dipper said to me
I thought I bored me but I learned to think like you
Now nothing bores me that's that nothing is thought through
Why?
Why?
Bottoms up and this time
Won't you let me be?
Bottled up but this time
Won't you rescue me?
Thought it out and this time
It's all I can see
You should have been here last night and heard what the big dipper said to me

Built to Spill - Carry the Zero (Keep it Like a Secret)
I'm not knocking your want to carry that home
Took it with you when you moved and got it broke
Found the pieces, we counted them all alone
Didn't add up, forgot to carry a zero
I can't be your apologist very long
I'm surprised that you'd want to carry that on
Count your blemishes you can't they're all gone
I can't see your response putting them back on
Like they're waiting for your guard to fall
So they can see it all
And you're so occupied with what other persons are occupied with
And vice versa
And you've become what you thought was dumb
A fraction of the sum
Yeah you've become
Yeah you've all become a fraction of the sum
The middle and the front
And now it's coming back hasn't it come too far
I was trying to help but I guess I pushed too hard
And now we can't even touch it
Afraid it'll fall apart

BTS - Belly Up - Kendra & Jessie

Oh man Jess, I miss you so much and I can't wait to see you again and exchange earrings!

piezoelectricity!

POWERleap is an intelligent floor product that converts wasted energy from pedestrian and vehicular traffic into electricity. The technology behind POWERleap's energy harvesting solution is piezoelectricity, where electricity is generated from an applied force of mechanical stress. POWERleap can be integrated within the urban infrastructures of city sidewalks, dance clubs, airport terminals, train stations, fitness centers, sport stadiums, university campuses; basically any place that has a high volume of people. The product represents the world's first viable human-powered, renewable energy source that can be scaled to significant levels. When faced with dwindling natural resources and growing urban sprawl, POWERleap highlights the way forward to a more sustainable energy future.

Here is a clip of the fascinating television show Next World on the Science Channel I saw last night.

YEAH Elizabeth Redmond!

christmas! in august!

Polapremium was having another special offer and I couldn't pass up the bargain on Polaroid 779 film (equivalent to Polaroid 600 film). The promotion was called Share the Love 2. I got some friends to buy film and I reimbursed my mama, daddy-o and Aldo for purchasing packs for my stockpile. It really felt like Christmas, in august.

Look at the packaging of the film packs! <3
I love you Polariod with all my heart.
My mom is thrilled to have my films in the refrigerator...
He he he...

the plant lady

Debi (Dillon's mom) owns Leucadia Floral & Plant (aka the Plant Lady). She had me cover the shop Saturday and Sunday while her and Bruce moved Dillon into the Upham House. I was so excited to work at the place and had so much fun examining succulents, arranging bouquets, and hanging out with the plants. Every single customer that came into the shop was SO friendly and talkative. Which makes sense because who comes to a plant/flower shop in a bad mood? No one. Everyone is so thrilled off buying a house plant or giving a loved one some fresh flowers.
We had a succulent sale, buy three get a 2'' free!
'
The hanging plants sold like hot cakes. They were only 2 for $12 - such a steal!
super vintage cash register...
the view from the cash register....

babies!
so very little.....
and so very cute!!!
I want them all!!!!
!
but really, I'm obsessed.

I wanted this guy reaaaally badly but I don't have anywhere to hang him.
up close and personal...
the colors are so great!
STRING OF PEARLS!!!!!!!

loving on the beautiful flowers...
loving on the baby succulents....
I hung out by the hanging plants for the majority of my shift. I rocked in the rocking chair under the shade while reading my book or talking to strolling leucadians.
I crafted this succulent arrangement in this odd shaped vase!
doesn't the succulent look like an artichoke?
I love how the succulent collects droplets of water in the center for when it is thirsty, what a genius little guy!
My box of goodies! All paid for by my tip$. I dug those flowers out of the garbage and I'm going to dry them in my room. And I even found the plant I wanted but without the hanger!
To close up the shop I had to bring all the hanging plants inside for the night. It was a workout!
one pretty mess....
all cleaned up...
all locked up....

As if this day wasn't already stellar enough, I came home to a beautiful coffee stained letter that traveled all the way from Bremen, Germany.
