ice tea

I had the worst first day of work ever. I showed up extra early to beat morning traffic and help set up for the Opening Day at the Races. We weren't allowed to clock in before 9:30 a.m. AND they automatically take out 30 minutes of your shift for break, so essentially I didn't "clock in" until 10 a.m. So that's great, I didn't (and won't) get paid for the first 1.5 hours I worked. I am busser but they placed me inside the kitchen to be an "ice tea girl". I literally poured ice tea for 9 hours straight. I worked with a really lovely girl named Kirsten but her only downside was that she had NO restaurant experience whatsoever. How she got a busser position at the Turf Club sort of blows my mind....I was offended they forced me to do that task for 9-straight-hours because I have years of experience being a server, busser, caterer and hostess. Oh, well.

I was most offended with this stupid server named "Boni" said, "Honey how old are you?" "22" "22?? My gosh you look 16, little does everyone know you are a post-bac but everyone thinks you're just the ice tea girl!" Thanks Boni, thanks a whole lot.

At the end of the day I made $41 in tips. I worked 11 hours, will only get paid for 9 probably. All the other bussers were bragging that they would personally be handed $20/$40/$50 tips from ONE COSTUMER and total made about $200-$300 that day. I more or less wanted to smack all of them.

I don't know when I will be working next. They said I wasn't scheduled today but they would call me at 8 a.m. if they needed me at 10 a.m. Talk about rude. I have no idea when I'll work again I guess I'm just sorta "on-call" so I'm gonna start job searching again.

Jorts, Visors, and Polo Tees Uniform at the Harbor Fish Cafe are really biting me in the ass right now. Too bad I turned that job down. I'm really regretting that decision.

I gave money to a stranger

Yesterday I drove Greg to the airport. After saying goodbye and sobbing my eyeballs out, a very frazzled Kendra left the LAX airport. I got so turned around in the parking structure and I could NOT find my car. I thought - there is no WAY someone would steal a Previa. I searched and searched on the 4th floor and ran into this old lady with a walker. Mind you, it's dusk and the parking lot is barely still lit with natural light.

Old Lady - Excuse me Miss?
Kendra - Me? Oh hello.
Old Lady - Hi there, I was wondering do you have $16 dollars? (opens wallet) You see, my car key won't start my car, and this is my wallet, this is me (shows me her CA license), and I just called this tow company (shows my a business card), and you don't know what I've been through, and it costs $78 and I'm $16 short, do you have any?
Kendra - oh, what, oh yeah, sure yeah okay (I look around sketchily and hand her the money.)
Old Lady - thank you so much, God bless you, you don't know what I've been through
Kendra - uh huh.

As I walk away I realize - WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST DO?!? But then I think there is NO WAY a cute old innocent lady cheated me. This MUST have happened for a reason because (1) I purposely didn't put that extra $20 in my gas tank, (2) I got lost finding my car therefore I ran into her. It's like it was MEANT to happen. Either that or I really did just loose $20.

Oh yeah, here is the best part of the story = I didn't have enough money to pay for the $11 parking charge. Whoops.

4th of July + Summer

I am quite possibly the worst blogger ever. I keep thinking that once I'm in Paris I'll start to blog more often, but for now I'm really lazy about it. What I will (hopefully) do is try to update my blog more often with recent photos because let's be honest here...no one reads my blog for it's text, it's all about my photos that keep this interesting.

Here is a gross photo of the latest food trends at the del mar fair. Slash has anyone heard any more news on Arnold selling the Del Mar Fairgrounds? Click here to see the video.

the Del Mar Fair atmosphere. Look at Rory's blinking eyeballs.

Here are some photos of the fireworks we saw at the Fair. Rory, Demetrio, Dillon, Katie and I found this sweet secret passageway that lead to a parking lot next to the Grand Stand. It wasn't crowded at all and we layed on the pavement and watched the fireworks, I didn't have my fancy camera or tripod but it was still fun to take photos.

Here is a video of the grand finale of fireworks!!!!!!

Here is the photobooth photo of Rory and I. I love these things. Even if they cost $10 I would still do it.

Here are the photographs I took last year at the fair with new 50mm lens.

Here are photographs taken on top of Gigio & Tara's rooftop where we watch fireworks every year. The images are sharper because they are taken with my Nikon D80 and I used a tripod.

some sketchy homemade fireworks.....

It finally feels like summer....

Poolsides with Rory.

Playing with Max.

Late afternoon cooking.

Lazy mornings at the Pannikin.

Here are some funny videos I've taken during the last week....

Agressive birds trying to steal my rhubarb pie.

A classic-lowrider-car that is blasting the song "Lowrider". Classic.
