Odette & Aimé

One thing I absolutely love is French handwriting. Everyone writes in (what we refer to as) 'cursive' but to them this is 'print'. When someone writes in non-cursive handwriting (plain handwriting) they call this script. All of the restaurant menus, some price tags, and window displays are written in beautiful cursive. It seems to add a personal character or touch to everything. I feel that it is very very French.
Here is an example:
Laetita and I both ordered the same thing:
poulet fermier rôti, jus au purée maison
free-range/farm rotisserie chicken, with jus over homemmade mashed potatoes
I don't want to translate jus because it's not gravy, nor is it juice. It is the chicken drippings from the rôtisserie, usually at the bottom of the grill compartment they put potatoes at the bottom to capture the drippings and marinate. Or they simply spoon it out to drizzle over the chicken or mashed potatoes.
bon appétit!
