e.dehillerin

E. Dehillerin carries culinary materials and hard to find kitchen tools
Don't be deceived by there enormous windows, this shop it actually quite tiny!

All the products are stacked in what seems like garage shelving, everything is a little disorderly and very dusty. It was sort of a disappointment :(

cooking in louisette bertholle's kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so get this.
(1) This house used to belong to Louisette Bertholle.
(2) Thus, she used to cook in this kitchen.
(3) Are you familiar with the book Mastering the Art of French Cooking written by Julia Chila (and co-written by Simone Beck + LOUISETTE BERTHOLLE)
(4) WHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS HER KITCHEN!!!!!
These are her pots!
And pans! And kettles!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(1) Julia Child worked with Louisette Bertholle
(2) Louisette Bertholle used to live here
(3) Constance's Dad owns this house
(4) Constance is my friend
(5) Me
(6) You
Therefore, YOU know Julia Child through 6 degrees of separation! AHHH!!!!
ME COOKING IN HER KITCHEN:
Then we went through a box of her old typewritten recipes! WHAT IN THE WORLD! There wasn't any Mastering the Art of French Cooking recipes, however there were some correspondences between her and Julia. (Yes, I'm on a first name basis.) Most of the files we saw had to do with a project she was working on at the time - American cuisine for the French. which didn't fly.....I wonder why....not!

five course meal

I promised my Mom for her birthday I would cook her a 5-course meal. Well, her birthday was in April and I was still at school so I told her I would do it in the summertime. I bought all the produce at La Costa Fruit Stand, all of the veggies/fruit are local and organinc. Mmmmmmmm. So here is the menu of the evening:
chopped onions...
sliced apples...
itty bitty raspberries...
teeny tomatoes...

mmm....
preparing the herbed-goat cheese medallions...
prepping the dinner plates and dessert plates for assembly...
prepping the pots and pans...
salads....
the meal!
it was real tasty...
the bread got burnt, but Rory doesn't care...
the dessert!
up close...

Family...
Happy Birthday Mama!
