talloires - raclette

Oh, how cheesy.
Cheesy has two meanings here:
(1) their faces
(2) we are eating raclette, a Swiss dish of melted raclette cheese.
There is even a special contraption specifically designed for eating raclette. As you can see, Laetitia is putting a slab of raclette cheese in a little holder and putting it in between the hot place (black) and the top red plate.
Raclette is typically eaten with pommes de terre (potatoes), charcuterie (cut meats), cornichon (little pickles) and little pickled white onions. miammmmm!
Here is a better angle of what it looks like. We use triangular trays, 6 trays form a circle.
Look at those faces of delight!
she loves me.

I'm going to say it, Raclette is better than Fondue. !!!!! So if you think fondue is good, you haven't LIVED until you've had raclette. Also, someone please buy this for me!!!!!!

fondue chez laetitia

This is what La Defense looks like at night, Laetitia's parents live over there, to the right. I only have to take one bus stop (at night) or walk for 10 minutes (during the day) to get there. It's quite nice.
Tonight Alison, Laetitia and I had FONDUE night.
Faces of anticipation:
Really scorching hot cheese in my mouth, but delicious nonetheless:
Nom nom nom:
You have to make sure you continually mix the cheese so it doesn't burn.
!!!!!!!!!! cheese in our bellies!
It's sort of funny that bread + fondue is an entire meal.
Towards the end of the fondue it starts to form this thick, greasy, cheesy thingy:

Here is Laetitia attempting to eat it:
Alison!!!!!!
So gross hahaha
hahhahahhahahaaaa

swiss cheese

I chatted it up with the Cheese Man the second day of my arrival. Of course. I love cheese. Have I mentioned how nice Swiss people are? My goodness, they shower you with greetings, farewells and compliments. For example:
-Hello
-Hello, Good morning! Goodday! Are you enjoying the day?
-Yes, yes thank you
-Oh nice, what can I help you with?
-Oh, some cheese please.
.......(then we dicuss cheese)
-Thank you
-Oh thank you, have a wonderful afternoon, enjoy your cheese, enjoy the snow, enjoy the evening. Goodbye, see you again soon, bye bye. Take care now, okay bye bye.

Literally, no exaggeration. It's so great.
Also, they speak slower, so it's easy to understand them. The girls make fun of them for it, sort of like this:
France French: Bonjour, comment ca va?
Swiss French: Bonnnnnnjouuuur, cooommmment ca vaaaaa?
I love it.

Also, they say some numbers differently, which works in my favor, so that's brilliant.

There is the Cheese Man!

moutain food

I met the family for lunch today, I had to take the ski train up the mountain and we had D E L I C I O U S food. Oh man, is it possible Swiss mountain food is better than French food? Hmmmm.....
This is rösti, it is grated potatoes with is either fried or baked, the closet equivalent would be like hash browns. But these are not hash browns, these are so much better that anything I have ever had.
This is fondue. mmmmm cheese (grommit!).
Look how serious Clemence is and look at Aude nom nom noming.
This is Arnaud the father.
This was our table/view.
GIVE ME A BREAK.
Switzerland is a postcard.
